Starting my Feature: How Students and Young People Are Changing Entrepreneurship

williampcroft

Starting my feature I wanted to delve into the massive impact students were having on the landscape of entrepreneurs and business as a whole, my main inspiration for this initially is Ben Francis, the CEO of Gymshark and the youngest self-made billionaire that the UK has ever had. As an individual, he was the first to make me look deeper into the realm of student startups and their massive reach across the industry. I own Gymshark clothing so when I discovered it was founded by Ben out of his garage at 19 I was amazed. This led to looking at companies like Hausbots, founded by Harry Smith, which created robots that could climb walls to survey construction sites whilst keeping more people safe. Discovering this I couldn't help but look locally, finding a restaurant in the town centre of Bournemouth called Loco Lime founded by two students after graduating from Bournemouth University, guaranteeing what I wanted to write about.

Starting out there are the obvious ideal interviews, People like Ben Francis, at the top of their respective fields are perfect to interview but also very difficult to reach compared to many others, meaning that whilst ideal and ambitious they are also unlikely and cant be relied upon to fill the piece. because of this, I reached out to a variety of companies and young CEOs, as well as other relevant individuals in the industry like the Kings Trust, a foundation that supports young people with financial and educational support in starting their businesses.
